SCREENING PROCESS As an organization that provides programs to vulnerable people, Special Olympics Saskatchewan has developed a screening process that will ensure that the people we serve are safe and protected: Step 1: Clear Volunteer Job Descriptions Special Olympics Saskatchewan has defined key roles and duties for each volunteer position. This way, responsibilities and expectations are clearly set out for all involved. Click the above link to view the volunteer job descriptions. Step 2: Establish a Recruitment Process Special Olympics Saskatchewan has established a six (6) step recruitment process for new volunteers in which we utilize application forms to obtain important information. You can view this process on our website under: How to Become a Volunteer. Step 3: Criminal Record Checks SOS is morally and legally obligated under the principle of “Duty of Care” to appropriately screen people who volunteer their services. Each NEW volunteer must submit a criminal record check with his/her registration form. Returning volunteers are required to submit criminal record checks to our three year cycle: 2004/05, 2007/08, 2010/11, etc. A volunteer registration form will not be processed until a corresponding record check has been received and approved. Download Criminal Record Check Form Special Olympics Saskatchewan accepts the criminal record check in secure and confidential care. In the event that a criminal record is displayed, Special Olympics Saskatchewan reserves the right to inquire with the individual as to the details of the offence. Special Olympics Saskatchewan also reserves the right to refuse the services of any volunteer, based on the outcome of his/her record check. Special Olympics Saskatchewan will contact volunteers if their application is refused. For more details pertaining to the Safe Sport - Volunteer Screening, see Policy 4000-07 Step 4: Orientation SOS requires all new volunteers to review the 2008-09 Volunteer Orientation Handbook. This provides the volunteer the opportunity to learn more about the non-profit organization and the services they provide. There is an online volunteer orientation page.
