The Knights of Columbus is a Cathlolic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. The Knights of Columbus promote Social and intellectual fellowship through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works. The Knights of Columbus were the founding members of the Special Olympics movement in Saskatchewan. In 1969, the Saskatchewan Association for the Mentally Retarded (SAMR), approached the Saskatchewan State Jurisdiction of the Knights of Columbus, and together organized a Saskatchewan Special Olympics Chapter. Over the years, the Knights have been dedicated volunteers, and have attended many Special Olympics events, over the last 37 years. The Knights have been a long time Sponsor to Special Olympics Saskatchewan, and still today donate approximately $15,000. on an annual basis.
