Active Start and FUNdamentals youth programs will be starting up in the last week of February. If you live in Moose Jaw, Regina, Weyburn, Saskatoon, or Prince Albert, and have a child between the ages 2-10 with an intellectual disability, this program is for you! For more information, click here.

The Special Olympics Festival will take place on Thursday, May 17 at the Conexus Arts Centre. We will be "Puttin' on the Ritz" with a casino night and live entertainment. The 2012 Leadership Conference is set to take place from April 13-15, at the Ramada Hotel & Golf Dome in Saskatoon. This will be an informative weekend and will provide an opportunity for coaches and volunteers to be inspired, learn new skills, and to collaborate with each other. This year's focus will be on community building, volunteer recruitment and community cooperation.

The Special Olympics Canada Winter Games will take place from February 28th-March 3rd in St Albert, Alberta. Our athletes from across the province have been training hard in preparation for this event, and are looking forward to representing Saskatachewan! Special Olympics Saskatchewan would like to congratulate Jackie Powell for receiving the 2011 Petro Canada Coaching Excellence Award! Jackie is an Aquatics Coach in Swift Current, who was recently the Aquatics Head Coach for Team Canada at the 2011 World Summer Games in Athens! Jackie received her Award at the Sport Leadership Sportif in Toronto Ontario.

Congratulations to Michael Qing! Michael has been selected as Special Olympics Canada's Male Athlete of the Year! Michael had a fantastic year in Special Olympics Competitions. He won two gold medals in the swimming pool at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, and capturing one gold and two silver medals at the Special Olympics World Summer Games! Michael will be recognized for his efforts at the Special Olympics Canada Awards in Toronto, on December 8th. Congratulations Michael!

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) in Prince Albert presented a cheque to Special Olympics Saskatchewan. The LETR hosted several fundraising events throughout 2010 and 2011. The LETR raised $33,450 in support of Special Olympics Saskatchewan! Thanks and great job!!!
