Job Descriptions

Head Coach – Job Description

•  Must be trained or certified in accordance with Special Olympics Saskatchewan coach volunteer qualification guidelines.  
•  Assist athletes in acquiring sports skills.
•  Evaluate mental and physical skill level of the athlete(s).
•  Adapt training and teaching techniques for athletes.
•  Provide equal training and competition opportunities for all athletes.
•  Have basic First Aid knowledge.
•  Make sure that practices consist of warm up, motor skill development, sport skills and cool down.
•  Be a good role model by exhibiting good sportsmanship.
•  Work towards obtaining such qualities as patience, conscientiousness, flexibility, discipline and organization.
•  Ensure those involved with your programs are registered with Special Olympics Saskatchewan.
•  Ensure that assistant coaches and athletes carry out their responsibilities.
•  Plan the club activities for the season.
•  Orientate assistant coaches and athletes to the club.
•  Assign assistant coaches to the athlete.
•  Determine leadership development needs for assistant coaches within their specific athletic and sport clubs.

Assistant Coach – Job Description

•  Must be trained or certified in accordance with Special Olympics Saskatchewan coach volunteer qualification guidelines.  
•  Assist athletes in developing sport skills.
•  Evaluate mental and physical skills level of the athlete(s).
•  Adapt training and teaching techniques for all athletes.
•  Have a basic First Aid knowledge.
•  Report emergencies to the head coach or team manager.
•  Attend available coaching clinics in your sport / National Coaching Certification Program courses.
•  Make sure that practices consist of warm up, motor skill development, sport skills and cool down.
•  Be a good role model by exhibiting good sportsmanship.
•  Work towards obtaining such qualities as patience, conscientiousness, flexibility, discipline and organization.
•  Implement lesson plans developed by the head coach.
•  Supervise athletes during practices and assist with equipment set-up and organization of the practice site.

Program Volunteer – Job Description

•  Complete SOS volunteer orientation training and professional development opportunities as applicable.  
•  Assist the coaching staff in providing athletes with necessary support.
•  Attend regular practices and events.
•  Other duties as assigned by the head coach.
